Yeah, great news! I just got off the phone with the city of Fairview, and we are on for Yoga in the Park! I'm sooo excited, you guys have no idea! I am honestly bouncing in my seat! :o)
So here's the deal! I will be teaching a 60min to 90min yoga class on Tuesday evenings starting at 6:30pm. This will be a mixed level class, welcome to anyone that is interested in giving it a try. The class will continue to be on Tuesday evenings through out the summer, weather permitting. (if it rains, there will be no practice. if it gets over 100degrees, there will be no practice.) Please check this blog for updates on the classes. It is best to check every Tuesday, to make sure something hasn't come up that would keep me from coming to class.
This class is going to be taught at the Fairview Community Park, right next door to the Fairview City Hall. Here is the address for the Fairview City Hall - 1300 NE Village St, Fairview, Oregon 97024. We will be meeting in the pavilion at the corner of 13th and Village.
How much is the class? The class is donation based class. What is a donation based class? Donation based class, is a class that is offered at what ever price you can afford. The idea is to have a yoga class that is available to anyone, no matter what their financial status is. If you are flat broke this week, then come to class and pay nothing. If you can afford a couple dollars, please donate. If you can afford alot, and you feel the class is worth it, pay alot. That's it. Simple, and available to everyone. Wouldn't it be great if everything was like this?
Please keep in mind, when you consider the price you want to pay for this class. There are expenses on my part for equipment, insurance, (thankfully no permits. Yeah!) and training to offer these classes to you. Yoga can be an expensive training, but I truly believe that its worth it to be able to teach to people the benefits that yoga has to offer. I know that it will pay off in the end to be able to offer this to people who really need it.
A little bit about me: My name is Kris Myers. I currently teach Yoga, Cycling and an ABS Challenge over at Bally Total Fitness in Fairview. I have been teaching Yoga at Bally's for just over a year. I have been physically practicing yoga for about 8 years now, so I am a well seasoned practitioner. I am working towards my undergraduate (200hr) in yoga right now, which I'm almost there, a couple more classes to go! I am currently receiving my education through Yogafit. Yogafit is a Vinyasa style yoga, working on making the connection between breath and movement. I'm so proud to get to teach what I really love. As mentioned earlier, I'm very passionate about yoga. I really feel that Yoga was my calling, and can honestly say that I feel that I'm compassionate enough to be a great teacher.
Why practice Yoga? Yoga has so many benefits to it, that i could type for hours listing them all. But lets sum it up. Yoga is a great tool to help you find balance within your body. Whether stress reduction is what you need, or building strength, balance, or just a simple connection to your own body. Yoga has the ability to connect all of these things to bring you a harmony, peace, and grace to your life! Isn't that what we all would like out of our everyday life? All of this starts with the mind body connection. What is that? The mind body connection is simply becoming aware of your body. Noticing what it is dong, noticing the habits we've created and working on adjusting them to find peace in the body. Give it a try? What do you have to lose?
What do you need to practice? You will need a yoga mat - a long sticky mat, that offers cushion & stability in your poses. If you have a strap or yoga mat as well, please bring them, though it isn't necessary to have. Both of these items are great props used in your practice, if you need them, but again, aren't necessary. If you are new to yoga, and you don't have a mat, and don't know if you want to make the purchase, I do have a couple extra mats for your use. Though, please note, if you plan on continuing your yoga practice, it is advised to have your own mat. Mats are a personal item, as much as shoes are. So you will want to make sure to get your own mat that you will comfortable on.
Attire - because this is an outdoor class, you may want to dress in layers of comfortable clothing. You want your clothes to fit comfortably against your body, baggy clothing is not advised (nothing worse than having your shirt creep up your body in downward facing dog. :o)) you may want to have a long sleeve shirt, as well as a light shirt (like a tank top) underneath. When we are flowing through our practice you will be warm. When we come to final relaxation, you may become cold, if you don't have the proper clothing.
I think I've covered everything. If not, stay tuned, i will add more as necessary. I'm really excited about this class and look forward to offering it to you. Feel free to tell of your friends, remember this is open to everyone, but is only available as long as the weather holds out.
I will announce the first class here very soon!
Thank you so much, and spread the word!
