What lights your fire?

Are you doing the things that make you happy? Do you not know what it is? Are you able to do the things you dont enjoy and feel good about it?

Often times we get caught up in the responsibilities of our lives. Its what we are taught to do by our parents, by society, because its the standard. But it doesnt mean we have to do it, and be unhappy about it. Its been my personal experience that if you find your purpose in life, and you live it, you become fulfilled and generally feel happier. With this feeling in our hearts we have the strength to get through the things we dont enjoy as much, and they begin to feel like a task that is no big deal.

Say for example you really do not enjoy cooking, for whatever reason. But you found your purpose in life, and that's training dogs, and making a difference in a dogs world. When you take the time to routinely train dogs, as many times a week that feels right with you, suddenly you get up in the morning and you get through the task of making your breakfast (yep, your cooking) and your smiling, your happy. You could blame it on the sun, or you woke up on the right side of the bed, or the stars are aligned. All those things could still be true, but the bigger picture is that when you are living your purpose, your are living for your passion, it fills your whole life with contentment, and suddenly the menial tasks don't even get noticed, outside of something you get done, to move to the things you really enjoy and live for.

Today I want you to take a moment and think about, what are you passionate about? What is your life's purpose? Maybe you dont know yet, and thats ok. Take today to figure out what that is. Give yourself 20minutes to go lie out in the sun, or find a quiet place in your house. Than mentally strip all the labels off your life - mom, dad, brother, sister, receptionist, friend, teacher, housewife, neighbor. Strip away all the responsibilities of what you do - caretaker, chauffer, boss, cook, volunteer. Now, imagine if that person deep inside with out the labels had no fears whatsoever. There are no limits, no fences, nothing stopping that person from being who they are. Whats left? Who is the deepest part of what you are? What does that person feel like? What does that person want to do? What does that person want to be? We all know what and who this person is. But our person has been covered up by many layers of stuff! Sometimes it takes a lot of searching, and letting go of those layers to find out who that person is again.

When you get up from your moment of checking in with your Self, observe your day. Be aware of how your day is going, but let of of any attachments to that day. Repeat this moment of checking in with your Self, and eventually you will become aware of who you really are, what is your purpose, and what lights your fire! You will find that when you live your purpose, you are happy, content, and most importantly you will feel complete in what you are doing. Nothing will seem menial. Everything we do is for that purpose. Its what we were put here for. That one, or many, things you are living for are different for everyone, and perfect for you, all at the same time. So today, go out and light your fire!
