Yoga Nidra
What is Yoga Nidra? And what can it do for me?
Yoga Nidra is known as Yoga sleep. A wakeful sleep in which you can find a state of relaxation while still holding on to consciousness. Yoga Nidra is not a hypnotic state also known as yoga tandra.
Yoga Nidra does not have any yoga poses in the class, but rather finding a lying down position and learning to relax your entire body to gain the benefits of relaxation, through a guided practice. Yoga Nidra is a practice, that for some come easy, and for others takes a few sessions to really learn to let go of tension, and learn to relax. For some, the hardest part is staying awake for this 45min guided session.
The practice of yoga nidra has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. The autonomic symptoms of high anxiety such as headache, giddiness, chest pain, palpitations, sweating, abdominal pain respond well. It has been used to help soldiers from war cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The class is structured with a 15min talk on what Yoga Nidra is, and how it works. Followed by a 45min guided practice of relaxation. I hope that this class will be able to allow you to let go of all of the stress you hold in your body and give your body a break from the everyday stresses are body goes through. You will also learn techniques that will help keep you awake during your practice of Yoga Nidra.
If you have a yoga mat, please bring one. There will be yoga mats available for those that don’t have one. Please also bring a blanket from home. And if you have any other supports to help you remain comfortable such as eye pillows, bolsters, or sandbags feel free to bring them.
P.S (if this class has a great turn out in numbers, I would be interested in repeating the class once a month, to help you continue your practice of Yoga Nidra.)
